ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith says Dwight Howard still believes he will wind up in Brooklyn despite the numerous roadblocks.
At this point, most people figured that any chance of Dwight Howard going to the Brooklyn Nets evaporated a long time ago. But do not tell that to Dwight Howard.
In an interview with ESPN Radio’s Ryan Ruocco on Thursday, Stephen A. Smith said Howard still believes he will somehow wind up in Brooklyn. This despite the fact that the Nets have said they are no longer interested and also that it would take some serious wheeling and dealing to pull off. As it it stands right now, a deal is about darn near impossible.

Making this whole thing all the stranger is that Howard allegedly told Rudy Gay that he “messed up” by getting traded to Toronto, and that “he should have waited and ended up with me in Brooklyn.” However, Smith said this occurred when the Lakers visited the Raptors recently, and the two teams have not played each other since the Gay trade. The Lakers did play the Memphis Grizzlies shortly before the trade, so perhaps something was said there, but these comments still would not make any sense.
Smith did also go into more detail on what happened at last year’s trade deadline, basically exposing Howard for the flake that he is. Howard’s agent Dan Fegan had been trying to get the big man to Brooklyn for some time, but Howard went behind his back when he opted to stay with the Orlando Magic the rest of the season.
Whatever is actually true or not, it’s hard to imagine Howard ending up in Brooklyn. He had his shot, and he blew it with all his waffling. The Nets have to be very pleased with Brook Lopez, and at this point would likely not want to deal with the headache that is Howard. If Howard truly thinks he still will wind up a Net, he may be even more delusional than we all thought.
