Editor's Note:

Norma R“Music is the movement of sound to reach the soul for the education of its virtue” Plato

I cannot imagine living in a world without music. Music can lift our mood, ease our pain, and help improve concentration along with many more added benefits. Now, just for a moment imagine music no longer existed because music programs and music education were eliminated due to school funding. That is exactly what is happening in many underprivileged neighborhoods of Chicago’s South and West sides.

Things are about to get better for those neighborhoods in Chicago, because of the great things Chicago Academy of Music (CAM) is doing to make a positive impact for those children and families. CAM will be providing music and dance classes for those that qualify. Michael Scott Carter, who is the founder and Executive Director of CAM, has put together this organization that will give children an opportunity to learn about music.

On Tuesday January 29, 2013 Dolce Connections, Living Single in America Magazine, Scene-Chicago, NFL-Alumni Chicago Chapter, and Woman Empowerment all came together to host an event at DAO Sushi Thai and Bar at 17W 512 22nd Street Oak Brook Terrace Oak Brook, IL to benefit CAM. We had many celebrities and Prof Athletes that came out to support such a great cause. The list is too long to mention, but we thank you for coming out to support this event. It truly was a magical night.

If you would like to learn more about CAM and would like to make a donation, please visit them at www.chicagoacademyofmusic.org. Our Living Single in America writer Regina Filomeno will have a feature story about CAM, so stay tuned.
