Stony Brook 83, UMBC 39

There are beatdowns, and then there are beatdowns. Last night Stony Brook gave us its best Uncle Drew performance – they took about 10 minutes to get warmed up, but after that the young bloods had no business staying on the court. Consider that midway through the first half UMBC was actually ahead 23-14, meaning the score for the final 29:17 of action was almost impossibly lopsided: Stony Brook 69, UMBC 16. This, in the rare game where Stony Brook didn’t do much damage on the offensive glass (just 5 out of a possible 31 offensive rebounds). UMBC’s defense needs work after giving up 175 points in its last two games, but the Retrievers suddenly need to worry about the offense as well. Stony Brook’s defense is good, but the Seawolves went deep into their bench down the stretch and the Retrievers still only managed 10 points after halftime.
